Lesson Learned!

Hello Cyberworld!

I've been doing pretty well this week.  I'm down 3 lbs to 178 from a week ago.  I'm assuming that cutting out the sodium from diet soda has been extremely helpful to those 3 lbs.  I have to say though, my doctor was completely correct.  I have an underactive thyroid which has been a huge part of my weight gain over the years (besides just not paying attention) and she explained that I have to cut my caloric intake to about 1200 calories a day in order to see any significant weight loss.  Now that I'm a week into this, it's starting to pay off.

Good news: I'm losing weight and feeling good about it! I'm also able to still go out to dinner without feeling like I can't eat anything. :)

Bad news: Haven't come across much yet. I'm still having a difficult time working out every day.  However, I do try my best to get extra steps in.

So, what did I eat today?
Breakfast (7:30)- Special K Protein Bar (chocolate, yum!) 170 calories
Snack (10:15ish)- 2 oz. chicken 70 calories
Lunch: (12:30) Protein Shake 190 calories
Snack: (3:00) 2 oz. chicken 70 calories
Dinner: (6:00) Greene Turtle Caeasar Salad 574 calories, Glass of white wine (3.5 oz) 84 calories
Total: 1,159 calories out of 1200.

I did have a lot more calories at dinner than normal, but to be fair, this does not take into consideration the fact that croutons were not eaten as I am not eating bread.

No exercise today since I didn't get home until 8pm....but more exercise tomorrow! :)

Happy Thursday!

Needing a Diet Pepsi!

So I have been challenged to go 30 days with a diet pepsi or bread/pasta.  If anyone knows me, then they are laughing at this challenge.  They are also going to stop and think about how competitive I am.  Therefore, I am going for it.  I love diet pepsi (unfortunately) and who doesn't love bread? The soft warm--stop stop stop.  No reason to think about it since I'm not having it.

The Diet Pepsi wasn't a big deal.  The first day was a pain, with a major headache involved, but after the first day I've done very well!  I feel less bloated (5 days in) and more energy.  I drink a lot more water and if I need something other than water, unsweetened iced tea or a Sobe lifewater (0 calories!) is what I lean towards.

This bread thing has been a challenge.  Starting this challenge on a weekend where I would be out of town was frustrating, but then again, it needs to start now.  I have had to think a bit more about the items on a menu and become fully aware of what is in a meal.  So far, so good.  Since protein acts as a appetite suppressant, adding extra protein to my daily routine is key.

What have I eaten today?
Breakfast: 2 eggs with a slice of american cheese (2%) 2 8z glasses of water.  (191 calories)
Lunch: Protein Bar 1 8oz glass of water.(224 calories)
Dinner: Steak Ceasar Salad 1 8 oz glass of water. (569 calories)
Snack: Chobani yogurt (140 calories)
Total: 1124 calories...a little below my allowed caloric intake (1300) but I want to move my calorie intake down to 1200 so this is good.  I'm not hungry and finished eating dinner before 7pm.

Exercise?  It's getting chilly out here in Maryland so I'll be indoors tonight. And, until Santa brings me my elliptical (wink wink) I will be using my wii fit plus!  I did lose about 20 lbs back in college using just the wii, so it does add a bit of cardio to my daily lifestyle.  And a good motto is: any movement is good movement!

That does it for me today! :)
Have a wonderful rest of your Monday!

An Introduction

Hello cyberspace!  I'm started on a journey to wellness..so this is going to be my journal.  You'll find information on what food and exercise makes up my day.  But let's start from the beginning...

I love food.

It's something people would deem this statement as "bad" but food has been a huge part of my childhood and my present.  Whether it was the smell of the turkey at thanksgiving, or my mom's mashed potatoes, there are memories that go with the food I eat.  So although it may sound terrible, it's the truth.

Another truth?

I don't like to exercise.  I have a difficult time getting the motivation together to exercise- whether it's at the gym or in my own home.  I prefer to sleep in and I hate to go out of my way after work.  This particular truth is about to change!

As of right now, I'm 5'2" and I weigh 180.2 lbs.  Calculating my BMI would be about 38%!  An eye opening number that definitely heps you want to change what you're doing...so I'm doing it!

So, join me as I get angry, annoyed, frustrated, elated, and joyous, we're going on an emotional rollercoaster into the land of full on wellness. :)
